We stand with the students, faculty, activists, and workers who exercise their right to peaceful protest. UW-Madison has a long history of student activism, and the current wave of anti-war protests on campus exemplify the Wisconsin Idea that “education should influence people’s lives beyond the boundaries of the classroom.” We object to the university administration bringing police onto campus in response to protests. We ask the university to prioritize dialogue over violent confrontation and listen to student protestors.
